The other day I was just going over ideas for a baby’s first birthday celebration. I’ve forgotten about this idea, but remembered it when thinking back to my own daughter’s first birthday. At her party, we laid out sheets of cardstock, at least one per guest, and pens on each table. We asked each guest to write something addressed to our daughter, anything from a little message, current events, to words of wisdom. The younger kids, of course, were asked to draw pictures. We informed our guests that their messages would become pages in a book that will be stored in a box along with other keepsakes from the first birthday celebration, a sort of time capsule. We’ve got a little over ten more years before we hand over this book to our daughter on her 16th birthday. It’ll be interesting to find out what people actually wrote!
